Mike Bleed Da BlockStarr
Some people are natural born stars. From the womb to the tomb, only a certain few entertainers such as Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Prince truly possess the instinctive abilities to appeal to audiences from all walks of life. New Orleans born showstopper Michael Carlione A.K.A. Mike Bleed Da BlockStarr is such an entertainer.
Whether laying down spitfire rhymes, electrifying the stage with miraculous dance moves or even singing, this newfound talent is set to turn conventional music over on its ear with the upcoming release of his two part studio album "Alter Ego".
With his own musical genre that he labels Hip-Rock & R-n-Bleed, Mike Bleed cleverly combines several styles to form a sound like nobody has done before. His recently released seething lead single American Dream has been burning up the Gulf Coast over the past few months.
"I bring energy, personality and character to music. Im bringing a new sound, he explains. Everybody nowadays wants to talk about same things, that the next man talking about on a song. And many Artists are actually scared to be themselves. It's like orinality has become a bad thing. And since when did only speaking about street life become the main topic of Hip-Hop? Me personally, I'm catering to more than just the streets."
The product of Algiers, West Bank section of New Orleans, Michael was the type of child who craved the spotlight. It could be a family picnic, middle school talent show or singing to the little girls in the lunchroom, young Michael always demanded the center of attention.
His parents knew he was special when Michael was only two years old. The Worlds Fair had come to town and Michael saw some guys breakdancing on a cardboard box for the first time. The young tike got away from his folks for half a second, and before they knew it, he was spinning on his head with the breakdancers. "I dont remember exactly what I was doing", Michael proclaims, "but my folks still tell that story all the time. And because of that, I knew was destined to be a star."
He continues, "When I was coming up, if I saw a microphone, I saw an opportunity.
Michael didnt consider being a rapper until a friend suggested he try it. His first time on the mic, and Michael rips the instrumental version of Twista's Adrenaline Rush to threads. There was no turning back.
But while Michael was heavy into his music, Pops was heavy in the streets. Since the youngster was always around his dad, a friend of Michael's dad nicknamed him Michael Carlione- The Son of The Don; as in classic epic film The Godfather.
"I was'nt always there to witness many firsthand drug dealings. My father always tried to keep me unexposed too much of that side of the game", he says. "But I was always a curious George; so I still witnessed a lot of ugliness on the streets."
Michaels father got caught up in 1994. He wouldnt make it back home until 2005. "When my Dad got locked up; I started falling more into the streets, trying to fill a void. But after so long, I started seeing how things could end up; And I always knew that I wanted more. And music was the only thing I knew, in my heart, would keep me focused and away from foolishness. Besides, I didnt want to be another statistic. Pops sold enough drugs, and did enough time for both of us." says Michael.
Michaels musical reaches are indescribable. This music is for young and old, whites, blacks, Hispanics, Asians, everybody, says Michael. People tend to grasp for something new and hot. Thats why my city loves my music, and thats why the world is going to love my music too.
